Fine Dining Opportunities for People with Food Allergies
A restaurant which has been certified by Hipp Kitchen has had its chef, kitchen crew, and front-of-house staff all trained and tested on how to safely procure, store, cook, and serve food for people with allergies and sensitivities to gluten, dairy, peanuts, soy, and shellfish.
Hipp Kitchen is committed to certifying a variety of restaurants throughout the Bay Area and beyond, and we’re in conversation with a number of them right now. Check this page again. If there’s a restaurant you frequent that you’d like us to certify, please contact us.
Daffodil
Daffodil, near Union Square in San Francisco, serves European-inspired fare in a quiet, elegant setting. We chose to certify Daffodil for our first restaurant because of their flavorful menu, convenient parking, and Chef Jeremiah Wheeless’ commitment to using sustainable, organic, local, and ethically-produced ingredients as much as possible.

Daffodil Debuts Its New Menu

On October 17, 2009, over 50 people left Daffodil full, sated and more connected to their fellow allergenistas. Chef Wheeless and his crack team served beautiful, delicious food to a crowd who throughout the evening continued to ask “Is this really gluten free? It’s sooo good!” Willie gave everyone useful tips about navigating menus and asking the right questions to your server. Chef Tom gave some in-home cooking tips on how to maximize flavor and keep allergen-free foods exciting.
We even had a couple of special guests: Margaret Feary Walsh represented the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness and announced the Gluten-Free Cooking Spree which was coming up that month; and Joann Mitchell came all the way from Sacramento to write about the evening for the Sacramento Examiner.
